Winter is HERE and the affects the cold, dry weather has on you is not fun. I’ve noticed that over the past couple years there are some things that I have been using constantly in the winter and they have become essential to me during this time.
The first thing is an obvious one, moisturizer. My skin, like many others gets extremely dry in the winter. The moisturizer I use is the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream. Not to be dramatic but this moisturizer saved my life. Last winter around my eyes got so dry and crusty(they were BAD) so I started using this every day before bed and they got better within a month. Since then I’ve been using this for my face and body moisturizer. I guess you could say I am kind of biased when it comes to this since I haven’t tried many other moisturizers but this one is so good I don’t really feel the need to get anything else- plus the size I got is huge and has been lasting a really long time.Another thing that always gets dry is my lips. I can’t stand dry or cracked lips even though some times it is hard to prevent. I use the Palmers Cocoa Butter swivel stick. I’ve tried a lot of different chapsticks but this one is by far my favorite.I also noticed that my hair and nails get weaker in the winter. For my nails I always try to have gel polish on to prevent them from breaking. I also take a hair, skin and nail vitamin to help prevent weakness. The one I use is by the brand Vitafushion. You can use any hair skin and nail vitamin but I use this one because I’ve noticed that its the only one that actually makes my hair grow. Everyone is different though so it might not work as well on you as it does on me.Since I have a vitamin D deficiency I take vitamin D all year. Even if you don’t have a deficiency I would highly recommend taking a vitamin D supplement in the winter time. The sun gives us most of our vitamin D so since the days are shorter a lot of people start to have lower levels of vitamin D. This could affect your mental health and many other things!! The one I take is by the brand Nature Made and 2,000 units, obviously you can take any brand and a lower unit, anything will help. This next one is another obvious one- hand sanitizer. I think this is pretty self-explainitory. I always carry around mini bottles from Bath + Body Works, they’re super cheap and will fit in any purse. I keep them literally every where, all my purses, backpack, car, pretty much every where so I always have them available to me.I recently decided to stop going to tanning beds, for obvious health reasons and also I noticed it was making my acne worse. So since I get super pale over the winter I started using a tinted moisturizer to give me a little color. I use Laura Merciers Tinted Moisturizer, even though my skin is really dry I get the oil free one because my skin will get too oily after an hour or so of wearing it. I use this occasionally in the summer too but I mostly like to use it in the winter since my skin is drier then.
